THE RULES |
Welcome to Spite and Malace! Just like any other forum, we have some rules here that are very important and must be followed- what else are rules for? I'll try to make it short and sweet for you so you can be on your merry way.
OOC
OOC refers to everything out of character, whether is is in the site cbox, PMs, in our OOC board and games, or even in little side notes within post. While having fun, playing around, and humor is allowed and encouraged (this isn't Nazi Germany!), there are a few boundaries we need to keep in order to keep things running smoothly and make everyone feel welcomes and comfortable.
- Keep it PG-13. Meaning no excessive swearing, sexually explicit words, pictures, links ect. This isn't our rule, but it is Proboards' rule and it is listed in their TOS. Breaking this rule will not only result in action against you, but the site as a whole could get shut down. Not to mention it may make others uncomfortable! Be considerate of both others and the PB TOS, and keep anything you wouldn't tell a thirteen year old off the site. <3
- IC drama is always welcomed and encouraged, but please do not let it spill out into OOC. No one enjoys being on a site where they feel attacked and are surrounded by drama. We do not tolerate drama, bullying, trash talking, ect ect. The Staff takes OOC drama very seriously. We will PM anyone who is bringing silly drama onto the site with a warning and after that there will be consequences.
- You may register with any name you want, but before your character can be approved, his/her name must be in this format and in all caps: FIRST MIDDLE LAST.
- Graphics are awesome! Please respect the sizes of the icons and the hover image- stretched/squished images are ugly! If you're having help cropping and resizing, let someone know and we will be happy to help you! Also with images, there are no specific size limits on signatures, but please do not make it huge and stretch the board or make it overwhelm your posts. <3
IC
IC, yay! RPing and creating amazing characters is what we're all here for, aren't we? There's a few guidelines we ask our members to follow- most of them are very general and easy to follow. They're simply here because they need to be, or else things won't run smoothly and no one will have fun!
- God modding/power play is when you write a post and force the other player's character(s) into doing an action, For example: "Sally slapped Joe and Joe fell to the ground, automatically unconscious" Joe may have quick reflexes and could have caught Sally's hand, or maybe Joe took the slap like a man and stood his ground. Perhaps Joe has a very high pain tolerance and it felt like a tickle. Before you post a reply, please be sure that you are not forcing another player's character to do any sort of action just for your benefit. When in doubt, ask! <3
- Sally/Gary Sues are a term, referring to characters that have no faults and seem to be perfect. While this is a fictional RP, we do ask that we keep personalities here as realistic as possible. Not everyone is perfect nor all powerful. While your witch may be extremely intelligent and great at magic, perhaps she struggles with her temper or has a high sense of anxiety. While your wizard may have a heart of gold and have a likeable personality overall, perhaps he comes across as snooty, or maybe he struggles in his studies. See where I'm going with this?
- Another thing that stems off of Sally/Gary Sues- we do encourage diversity and are generally open to creative freedom, but we do not permit characters who are considered "the greatest/darkest/richest witch/wizard ever". Yes, you may have a very twisted character, yes you may have a rich character, and yes you may have a character with immense talent! We just do not want someone with a character who has a clear sense of superiority over others, because it can be very demeaning to other players who are proud of their babies. <3
- Feel free to plot as you wish- you may kill off your own NPCs (just be aware that all killers are caught eventually), you make have your ladies get pregnant, married, ect. The only thing we ask of you as members concerning plot is that it abides and does not override the site wide plot, and that you contact and administrator before killing off an actual character.
QUIDDITCH Here at Spite and Malice, we currently offer actual IC Quidditch games, but to ensure its validity and its fairness, we have constructed and follow a system, which you can learn about here There are rules that you must follow to have your characters participate in Quidditch that are very strict and if broken, we reserve the right to suspend or revoke your Quidditch privileges!
Currently, we only offer HOGWARTS QUIDDITCH, however, as the site grows, we may expand our system into the professional league!
RPing
- There is no minimum post count here at Spite and Malace, but please do be courteous of your fellow RPers and attempt to match their word count. It is a kick to the face if someone gives you a wonderful 700 word post and you give them a snort 150 word post.
- Again, keep things PG-13, especially in posts. Do what you need to- censor words, skip certain steamy parts with a fade to black, or take it to AIM, Skype ect. Keep it off the site!
- Please use past tense- as in "Tiger posted the rules" instead of "I posted the rules" or "Tiger posts the rules". It just makes everything a bit clearer. Also, please try your best to make your posts free of spelling, grammar errors. Boo-boos happen and everyone makes typos and it's okay, but pls d0nt tlk liek dis. It's confusing and frankly, no one want's to RP with someone who is not literate.
APPLICATIONS
Applications, how exciting! Here at Spice and Malace, we have a freestyle application, meaning you have the freedom to portray your character and tell their story however you wish. You may use a traditional sense and explain some of their personality and then tell their history like a story, perhaps you would like to set it up like an IC interview, maybe you want them to tell their story in their own words. It's up to you!
- Please use the following format as the title for your application: LAST NAME, FIRST NAME MIDDLE NAME
- All applications that are posts must be completed within ten days of the date the LAST POST on the app, otherwise they will be moved to the denied section until completed (yes, you may continue to work on your app and you may bump it when it is complete even if it is in the denied board!). You may reply to your app "still in progress, (date here) to keep showing that you are in fact working on it. It just keeps the new application board cleaner and allows us to see which applications have been abandoned and which ones are still being worked on.
ABILITIES
Abilities are fun and make your character unique! We have a list of abilities located here for you to choose from! We do however, have a limit on how many abilities your character may have. Your character, at maximum, may only have ONE born with ability, and THREE learned/acquired abilities. That being said, your character must have practice under their belt and some time between acquiring abilities, even if you are making them with abilities in their application. What do I mean? Here's some examples:
- Ex 1: Billy is fifteen years old and was born a metamorphagus. He has learned non-verbal magic, but he cannot already know occlumency and wandless magic because he's only fifteen! If he was older, it would be different- however, as he ages on the site, he can learn abilities as time goes on! Let staff know with a link to the post where he is practicing an ability and we will determine if he has practiced enough (aka- if the indicated amount of time for that particular ability has passed) for it to be added to his profile.
- Ex 2: Jane is twenty four and is a registered animagus, and knows Legilmency and Occlumency. She was born both 1/4 Veela and a Vampire. <---- That would not be allowed- you may only choose the Veela or the Vampire.
TEMPORARY BANS
Bans are her to help, not harm, I promise! Temporary bans are implemented when there are too many people with a particular ability/wand core/house/gender/blood status/ect running around! We do hold the right to place bans on what I just mentions, along with things like "rich, prominent families" or hunter families. Just like in real life, wealthy people are the 1% and are pretty rare. Once ratios even out, bans will be lifted.
Here are the temporary bans in place:
