ABILITIES |
Here's the important info concerning abilities. Please remember that your character may only be born with one ability and may learn/acquire up to 3 other abilities max.
BORN WITH These abilities are ones characters must be born with and inherit, and they cannot be acquires (Vampires are special and can be classified as both depending on the circumstances).
- VEELA - Veela are semi-humans, much like the Sirens of Greece. They are known for their white-gold hair, their grace, and their ability to charm (especially charm males). When angry however, they transform into a bird-like beast much like a Harpie and can throw fire. Full Veelas are not allowed, but you may have a character who is 1/2, 1/4 or 1/8 Veela and may inherit some of their traits, such as their stunning looks, their grace and ability to charm others, and their fiery temper. A character cannot inherit the ability to transform into the Harpie-like form since they are not full-Veela.
- GIANT - Giants are giant humanoids that are known for their large size, resistance to spells, their strength and their lack of intelligence. While they are brighter than trolls, they are generally less intelligent than humans and wizards which causes giant tribes to often be very disorganized and frankly violent. Full giants are not allowed but you make have a character that is 1/2, 1/4, or 1/8 giant. Some traits inherited from their giant heritage can include some resistance to magic (ex. a full body bind curse may not immobilize a 1/2 giant completely, or it won't last as long on a 1/4 giant), abnormal strength, a lack of strong intelligence.
- VAMPIRE - Vampires are magical hominids that are known for their pale skin, aversion to sunlight and garlic, their fangs, and their taste for blood. Full vampires ARE allowed on the site with a few restrictions. You may not attack/kill another character without permission from both the player and administration, and remember that all IC actions can have consequences. If you decided that Jimbo they Vampire is going to attack someone in the middle of the Leaky Cauldron, ministry officials and/or hunters have a right to attempt to persecute (they cannot arrest or detain your vampire character successfully without your permission of course).
Full vampires can be born to two vampire parents, or they may be attacked and become a vampire (see acquired/learned abilities below)
1/2 vampires, 1/4 vampires and 1/8 vampires are also allowed and may inherit some traits, such as pale skin, subdued fangs, a distaste for sunlight and garlic, or a liking for raw meats. They do not feed on blood and they do not have the capability of transforming someone. - WEREWOLVES - Werewolves are humans who are afflicted with lycanthropy, meaning they transform into a near-wolf statue during the full moon. Unless they take the appropriate potions, they do not maintain their human mind during transformation and do not have a choice to not transform. Full werewolves ARE allowed, although they are NOT born as a full werewolf- they must have been attacked. Like Vampires, please be aware of powerplay and god-modding, and also of the IC consequences of attacking/transforming in public.
1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 werewolves are also allowed with some inherited traits, like canine-like senses and a preference for raw meats. - SEER - Seers are extremely rare witches and wizards who can see into the future using their "Inner Eye/Sight". It is extremely difficult to see into the future because it focuses on the consequences of every single action of those involved. Seers are able to create prophecies that are stores within the Ministry of Magic. All Seers MUST have a Seer in their family whether immediate or distant.
1/2 and 1/4 Seers are allowed and can inherit some of the Seer traits, like a knack for divination, gambling and correctly guessing the outcomes of smaller events. However, it is stressed that because they are not full Seer, their "guesses" are not always correct. - METAMORPHMAGUS - Metamorphmagi are rare witches/wizards who have the ability to change their appearance at will and do not require Polyjuice Potion. Usually Metamorphmagi do not have much training and must teach themselves their skills due to their rarity, and their abilities show early into their childhood.
- PARSELMOUTHS - Parselmouths have the ability to speak Parseltongue, the language of snakes. It is extremely rare due to the fact that nearly all Parselmouths are distant relatives of Salazar Slytherin, with only a few notable exceptions. Parseltongue is often hereditary, passed from generation to generation and generally do not have a good reputation.
LEARNED/ACQUIRED
These abilities are ones that character cannot be born with and must learn/acquire (Vampires are complicated and can be categorized as both). While these abilities must be acquired, it does not mean they they must be acquired after you have made your character. Characters that meet the age limits on the abilities can already have learned them, you simply must explain a bit in your application.
- WEREWOLVES - Werewolves are humans who are afflicted with lycanthropy, meaning they transform into a near-wolf statue during the full moon. Unless they take the appropriate potions, they do not maintain their human mind during transformation and do not have a choice to not transform. Full werewolves ARE allowed, although they are NOT born as a full werewolf- they must have been attacked (explain in your application or link administration to the thread containing the event). Like Vampires, please be aware of powerplay and god-modding, and also of the IC consequences of attacking/transforming in public. You cannot attack or transform another character without the permission of both the player and administration, and attacks in public can result in IC attempted persecutions by both Ministry officials and hunters. Your werewolf character cannot be successfully arrested, captures or detained without your permission. <3
There are also cases of PARTIAL LYCANTHROPY, meaning that a character was attacked by a werewolf when they were not transformed, like Bill Weasley. Here, the person will portray traits like those who have werewolf genes- a taste for raw meats and canine senses. 1/2-1/8 werewolf and partial lycanthropy are different so be sure to differentiate in your application or link staff to the event that will cause this to occur. - VAMPIRES - Vampires are magical hominids that are known for their pale skin, aversion to sunlight and garlic, their fangs, and their taste for blood.
Being attacked by a vampire can cause a transformation into a full vampire. You must explain the attack in your character's application or link administration to the thread where the event takes place. - NON-VERBAL MAGIC - Non-verbal magic very self explanatory is generally taught during students' sixth years, however, not all students master it and hence do not earn this title. It is not very rare, however, it is uncommon for one to perform non-verbal magic efficiently on difficult spells such as patronuses.
It requires 2 IC months to learn- link administration to the post where practicing/learning takes place once 2 IC months have passed, and we will add it to your profile. - WANDLESS MAGIC - Most wizarding children exhibit wandless magic before they have wands, and sometimes after under times of extreme emotion, like when Harry blew up his Aunt Marge in the Prisoner of Azkaban. However, most witches and wizards learn to inhibit it, and very rarely they learn to control it and use actual spells without their wand. It takes practice and immense magical talent to efficiently perform wandless spells, and it is even rarer for one to use combine their skills in non-verbal and wandless magic.
Although it does not require wands, wandless magic does require the use of hand/finger motions to guide the spell towards its target, or else it can have disastrous consequences.
Due to it's high level of ability, only students years 6-7 and adults may have wandless magic.
It requires 3 IC months to learn- link administration to the post where practicing/learning takes place once 3 IC months have passed and we will add it to your profile. - LEGILIMENCY - Legilimency is the ability to navigate deep into one's mind and accurately interpret the findings- both memories and feelings. It is more commonly called "Mind Reading" by muggles. Generally, the victim of Legilmency experiences discomfort during the act, and even pain if they are trying to resist strong enough.
Students years 5+ are able to learn Legilimency, though it is not taught at Hogwarts.
It requires 3 IC months to learn- link administration to the post where practicing/learning takes place once 3 IC months have passed and we will add it to your profile. - OCCLUMENCY - Occlumency is the opposite of Legilimency, meaning that one who practices Occlumency can block the use of Legilimency on their minds.
Students years 5+ are able to learn Occlumency, though it is not taught at Hogwarts.
It requires 3 IC months to learn- link administration to the post where practicing/learning takes place once 3 IC months have passed and we will add it to your profile. - ANIMAGUS - An animagus is a witch or wizard that can transform into an animal at will and the animal they morph into is not chose. Animagus forms are usually are linked to or match the wizard's patronus since they are determined by personality and inner qualities. Also, physical traits such as scars, hair colors, or items like glasses are reflected in their animagus form- for example, Peter Pettigrew was balding and as a rat, he had a bald spot on his head also.
Only 7th year students and adults can learn to become an animagus due to it's high level of difficulty.
It requires 3 IC months to learn- link administration to the post where practicing/learning takes place once 3 IC months have passed and we will add it to your profile.
