Hey everyone! Wondering how on earth the Quidditch system works? Well you've come to the right place! Here I'll explain how it works: what the stats are and how they are made, quidditch moves, how to improve your character's stats, how to use the dice system, how IC games will go, and how the Quidditch Cup will be earned once the IC year is over. :')
1. Quidditch MovesKnowing the terminology of moves will make the system much easier for both you and I. Here's a breakdown:
- MARKING - when a Chaser attempts to follow/block another Chaser from any passes. Think of blocks in football.
- FEINTING - when a Seeker "fake dives", trying to trick the other Seeker into diving as well. Successful feints result in what can essentially be considered a "lost turn" for the Seeker who falls for it.
- I think everything else is pretty basic, but feel free to ask for any clarification!
2. Quidditch Stats
Each quidditch player has 4 main stats and 1 bonus stat: Dexterity (DEX), Strength (STR), Concentration (CON), Health (HP) and the bonus, Focus (F).
- Dexterity (DEX) - DEX is how nimble/swift your character is on their brooms. DEX comes into play in A LOT of ways:
- when Chasers are marking other Chasers
- when Chasers are passing the Quaffle
- when Chasers are attempting to catch the Quaffle
- when Chasers intercept a pass
- when any player is dodging a Bludger
- when the Keeper is trying to block a goal
- when a Seeker feints
- when Seekers attempt to catch the snitch.
- Strength (STR) - STR is how strong your character is while in flight. STR comes into play in many ways as well:
- when a Beater hits a Bludger
- when a Beater defends a player from a Bludger
- when a Chaser steals the Quaffle
[li]Concentration (CON) - CON is how your character is able to concentrate on actions with the commotion of Quidditch going ona round them. It's used in a few ways but is critical to your character:
- When your character is hit by a Bludger/shunted successfully and attempts to carry on in whatever action he was doing
(ex: Chaser 1 is hit by a bludger while in posession of the Quaffle. He must use CON to maintain the Quaffle or he will drop it). - When a Seeker is looking for the snitch.
[li]Health (HP) - HP is your character's endurance, specifically when dealing with injuries.
- when a player is hit by a Bludger
- when a character is shunted successfully
[li]FOCUS (F) - F is a bonus stat available to your player only TWICE PER GAME. Use it wisely. It may be used performing any action and it simply provides your character with an additional set of points to add, meaning their score on whatever action they are performing will be higher. However, it may not exceed 7.[/li]
[/ul]
Stats DO ROLL OVER. Meaning if you have your player begin as a 5th year and you continuously put in effort, your stats will roll over into their sixth year. [/spoiler]
3. How are initial stats determined and how to I improve them?
Stats are created in your Quidditch tryout thread, where you will be asked what positions your character will play, an RP sample of IC Quidditch, and then you will be asked to roll the dice 4 times, for DEX, STR, CON and HP. Your character begins with a F of 1.
To improve your stats, you must earn XP. For each IC post you make in either Quidditch practice, or Quidditch games, you earn 1/4 XP. This means that for every 4 IC Quidditch post you make for your character, you will earn 1 XP, meaning you may add that point to any one of your character's stats. From there, you will go find your way to the Roster/Stats post and follow the instructions found there. :')
*AKA- The more you post your character practicing/playing, the better your player becomes!*

4. The Dice System
You're hearing all this about "dice" but some of you may be wondering how to roll dice on a forum, and how it will be fair? Well there's a fancy plug in installed on the forum, making it possible for each player to roll their own dice and prevents tampering with the results- as opposed to how things could get messy when relying on an external site for virtual dice. There is a little button next to the smiley button on the editor bar when posts (or you can just type "[ roll ]" with no spaces. That will roll your dice for your stats, and I/the Quidditch Admin will roll the dice in game (we will get to that later)!
The Dice is a typical 6 sided dice and it only goes from 1-6.
The Dice ONLY show once you have posted.
DO NOT EDIT YOUR QUIDDITCH POST WITHOUT ALERTING STAFF. It's okay if there is a typo, and if it bothers you that much, let a staffer know. If we see you have edited your post and we do not know why, we will assume you were cheating, and there will be consequences.
If we catch you tampering with the dice in anyway, it will be considered cheating, and we will kick your character off the team and you will not be permitted to enjoy our Quidditch system again.

5. IC Games
Alrighty, so now that you know your part in the Quidditch system, you have to know what part I/the Quidditch Admin will play in games, and how IC Games should go. Here's a rough draft:
All players participating SHOULD post, however, it is not mandatory. If you are not posting, your character will not be participating in the match much besides generic, assumed actions (ex. dodging bludgers, looking for snitch), therefore not helping your team very much, and you will not earn XP. Captains or Vice Captains (acting in place of Captain) may choose to switch the team lineup and remove MIA players.
After all players have posted/2 days after the last post, Hooch (I) will post again, it should looks something like this:
Then the cycle starts again. There is no specific posting order between Hooch's posts, but each Quidditch player is only permitted one post between. A player's post should look something like this:
All I will look for is the fact that 1. you posted at least an IC paragraph, and then the actions within the parenthesis.
1. Hooch/Admin will create a thread, and her post will describe the conditions of the match, the two teams, the starting roster, and their stats.
2. Player 1
3. Player 2.
4. Player 3 . . . .

After all players have posted/2 days after the last post, Hooch (I) will post again, it should looks something like this:
There have been changes in the Ravenclaw lineup:
Keeper: R-K (in this example, other team's Keeper will be S-K)
Seeker: R-S (other team's Seeker is S-S...)
Chaser: R-3
Chaser: Sue
Chaser: Bob
Beater: Jim
Beater: R-B
On the bench: Dan
R-B attempts to defend R-S and deflect the Bludger to S-C.
S-B's Bludger: (S-B's STR- 5)+5YAwdEVl= 11
R-B: (R-B's STR- 4)+= 9
R-B fails to defend R-S; R-S must dodge.
S-B's Bludger: 11
R-S: (R-S's DEX- 3)+ = 7
S-B's bludger hits R-S! It was a minor impact (difference was less than 3). He loses 1 HP.
R-S must concentrate to continue looking for the snitch this round.
S-B's Bludger: 11
R-S: (R-S's CON- 8)+= 11
TIE! Re-roll.
S-B's Bludger: 11
R-S: 8 + = 13.
R-S is able to maintain concentration and may look for the snitch.
R-S: Since is CON is above 5, he is already able to look for the snitch.
R-S:
3 is the Snitch number!! R-S sees the Snitch!!
Then the cycle starts again. There is no specific posting order between Hooch's posts, but each Quidditch player is only permitted one post between. A player's post should look something like this:
R-S (replace with name of player) was hit by the Bludger with a thud and he heard his shoulder crack. Some pain appeared at the site of impact but it wasn't bad at all. He was able to keep looking over the field, hoping to see a glint of gold. Something flew by his ear with a buzz of it's wings, and he saw that the snitch at flew right past him! He leaned forward on his broom and began the chase.
Yada yada, more IC details you'd like to add concerning your character, reactions, communicating with teammates ect.
(Trying to catch the snitch!)
All I will look for is the fact that 1. you posted at least an IC paragraph, and then the actions within the parenthesis.
6. The Quidditch Cup
There will be 6 games throughout the IC year, and some may overlap with others. It's okay, if they do, but the faster all players post, the fast the games are done:
Gryffindor vs Slytherin
Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw
Ravenclaw vs Slytherin
Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff
Hufflepuff vs Slytherin
Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw
The final scores of these games will be recorded in the Quidditch Cup Standing thread and they will be totaled. At the end of the year, the team with the most points wins the Cup *NOT whoever WINS the most games*. Standings will be available after each game.
